He is a man of God. His name is Jonas de Leon Gutierez. He has a wonderful wife, Ruth Jesse Manuel Martinez, who teaches in the school and a son whose name is Samuel Jonas de Leon Manuel.
We asked Jonas to share with us a little about his life so you can better understand who he is and what he does.
He was born into a Christian home and was baptized when he was 15 years old. Jonas began assisting the pastor, who was also his mentor, in La Mosca when he was 18 years of age. When his mentor and friend passed away, Jonas courageously took the head pastoring position with full force. With help from a North American brother, David Savage, Crestwood Baptist Church, and G.O. Ministries, he is able to do the work of our Lord in Santa Lucia.
With the help of God, Jonas prays that the church community will grow. His prayers are that God will use him to teach the members of the church to depend on their own strength, in terms of economics, and to always be thankful for the help that they receive. He wants to work with sports to reach the youth and help educate the people who need psychological help in the community. Above all, he wants the Lord to continuously guide and teach him.
His dreams for the future of the church show just how on fire this man is for God. This vision shows how Jonas is praying for the community of La Mosca to flourish and to lean on our Savior for everything.
Jonas helps feed the children of the feeding center six days a week and pastors the church that is held in the same building. He also helps his wife while she teaches in the school.
